Shippy Rodeo Bulls began in 1996 when Randy purchased a purebred Limosine bull calf for a practice bull.
After bucking the calf, later named #S4 Ruby Red, Randy knew he was one of a kind. Ruby was bucked in
the practice pen until he was 3 years old. At that time Randy was injured riding bulls, and
decided it was time to start raising and hauling bucking bulls.
He purchased a handful of bulls and started hauling them to open bull ridings in 1998. In 1999,
Randy purchased his SDRA & NRCA contracting cards and Ruby and two other bulls were chosen to
go to both of these finals. Also, in the fall of '99, Randy purchased nine head of yearling
plummer bulls from Ronnie Roach. One being a maternal half brother to the legendary herd sire
Spook, this bull is known as #938 Baby Brother. In 2000 things came together for Shippy Rodeo
Bulls when #S4 Ruby Red was chosen to go on the PBR circuit. Ruby was unridden in the PBR,
throwing off JW Hart, Cody Hart, Tater Porter, Ross Coleman, & Danny Varnadore. He was also
selected as the Mossy Oaks Shootout Bull in Grand Rapids, MI.
In the fall of 2000, #S4 Ruby Red broke and dislocated his front knee before the PBR finals,
which he was selected for. Despite his injury, he still made Cody Lambert's Top ten list of
rankest bulls in 2000. #S4 Ruby Red is still breeding cows, and his up and coming prospects
show just as much promise as he did.
In the spring of 2001 the first plummer cross calves hit the ground out of #S4 Ruby Red and
Chili Pepper daughters. These calves are now being hauled and sold all across the country.
"The next 3 years of crosses have proved even better and so has the success the Lord has
given us." We have raised some awesome buckers and great cows.
Some of the bulls that have stood out include: S44 Superstitious-a 2000 son of Ruby Red,
was sold to Okelley out of Illinios. He was hauled to the PBR finals in 2004 and then sold
for $25,000 to Berger and Riken. Okelley also bought S45 Devils Tower and he has been hauled
to the PBR's and recently was sold for $15,000 to Gene Owen. Okelley has some great 2001
calves coming up also, that we have sold him. We've also sold calves to many other people
as far west as California and as far east as Virginia. They are all looking great!
We have purchased three more herd sires. 805 Kung Fu Kid (a son of the famous cow CP1 Kung Fu
and 224 Spook) and 356 Red Ant (grandson of Frick's 45). 805's first calve crop will hit the
ground in spring of 2005 and we are hoping to have calves by 356 in 2006. In April of 2005
we purchased two sons of 161 White Sports Coat. With one being a full brother to Houdini.
We are excited about crossing these 2 bulls on our herd. There first calves will also hit
the ground in 2006.
The Lord has blessed us with one of our greatest accomplishments in 2004. We purchased a 3
year old, #13 Unhappy Gilmore (aka Big Deal), from Dibbet's out of Iowa. He proved to be a
great bucker and was sold for a awesome $65,000. He later went on and won the 2004 Derby
Championship for $108,000. We do have semen for sale on him.
We did have a big disappointment is 2004, and that was the lost of one of our great bulls.
In July, during a thunderstorm, 007 Secret Agent was hit by lightning and killed. Although
he is gone, he has produced two great calf crops.
We have great hopes for 2005, including two derby prospects. One is a yellow baldy bull,
#23 Like Mike. He is a 1/2 brother to the world champion derby bull, #13. The other is
#S29 Broke Leg, a black and white bull by #28 Livewire. They have both been bucking well
and placed 7th & 13th at 2005 ABBI Finals in Las Vegas. We will haul them to the 2006
Classics with several more 3 yr olds.
